Bernd & Hilla ceramic series — wheel thrown stoneware by Bucky, Brussels
Stoneware · Wheel thrown · 2023

Bernd & Hilla

A series of forms focused on subtle variations in shape and texture that arise from handcrafting — exploring the interplay between uniformity and individuality. Geometric shapes emerge from the clay: cylinders, cones, spheres — echoing industrial forms in an interplay of light and shadow.

Named after Bernd and Hilla Becher, the German photographers known for their typological documentation of industrial structures — this series applies the same rigorous attention to form and repetition to clay. Each piece is unique despite belonging to a coherent visual language.

Bernd & Hilla Revisited — mold cast stoneware series by Bucky Ceramics 2024
Stoneware · Mold cast · 2024

Bernd & Hilla Revisited

A 2024 evolution of the Bernd & Hilla series. Where the original was shaped by the spontaneous dialogue of hand and wheel, this revisitation introduces the discipline of mold casting — giving the geometric language a new clarity while preserving its essential restraint.

The mold process allows for a precision of surface and edge that contrasts with — yet complements — the subtle irregularities of the wheel-thrown originals. Together they form a complete dialogue between control and improvisation.

Charles & Ray ceramic vessels — sculptural stoneware by Bucky Brussels
Stoneware · Mold cast · 2021

Charles & Ray

A visual story told through the arrangement of forms — contributing to a larger narrative. The juxtaposition of two differently shaped halves in a single vessel echoes the idea of harmony arising from contrasting elements.

Inspired by Plato's Symposium and the idea that beauty and wholeness emerge when diverse forms come together — this series references Charles & Ray Eames, whose lifelong creative partnership embodied that same union of contrasting sensibilities. Each vessel is a dialogue made permanent in clay.

Marcel — stoneware breezeblock architectural sculpture by Bucky Ceramics
Stoneware · Mold cast · 2022

Marcel

Experimenting with light and shadow, using strategic openings to create structural clarity and geometric precision. Variable breezeblocks are created by combining four half-moulds — no two configurations identical.

The shape is inspired by a facade by architect Marcel Breuer — a figure who believed that functional form could carry poetic weight. In this work, the building block becomes the artwork: an architectural installation at domestic scale. Available on commission.

Sou — stacked wheel thrown stoneware totem by Bucky Ceramics Brussels
Stoneware · Wheel thrown · 2024

Sou

Each piece in this assembly is both sculptural and practical, stacked to form a tall monolithic form reminiscent of a totem. Inspired by pale, ghostly figures from ancient Celtic sagas — beings shattered and reassembled — these stools, side tables and planters interlock with thoughtful alignment.

Named after architect Sou Fujimoto, whose work explores the boundary between nature and architecture, structure and landscape. The Sou series brings that tension indoors — an object that changes as you add and remove its elements. A singular architectural statement for any interior.

Stoneware is a dense, durable clay body fired at high temperatures (1200–1300°C), producing a robust material with a natural, earthy quality — ideal for sculptural and functional forms. Porcelain is a refined, translucent clay fired at similar temperatures, prized for its whiteness and ability to transmit light. Bucky uses stoneware for most of her collections and porcelain exclusively for the Isamu lamp series.
